Job Description

Our client is an established Construction Contractor with a 40 year history of working on large scale developments within housing, urban regeneration & infrastructure and educational projects. The company currently has in excess of 400 staff employed on leading construction developments throughout London / South East and is actively looking to recruit the following role;

Sustainability and Environmental Officer - Essex & London

Experience             

Working knowledge of current legislation and good practice in relation to environmental and energy management

Member of (or working towards) membership of Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) or similar  

Computer literate together with knowledge of Microsoft Office packages

Excellent verbal and written presentation skills

Ability to communicate complex issues at varying levels, to different audiences

Organised and able to work to deadlines

Willingness to work flexibility to meet the demands of the job

Ability to work under own initiative and be independently motivated and driven, as well as work as a part of a team

Innovative and forward thinking

Strong analytical and research skills

 

The Role 

Sustainability and environmental management contributing to ISO 14001

Support the AD for Sustainability in maintaining ISO 14001 and developing best practice in environmental management

Create a robust Sustainability Strategy and reporting framework for the forthcoming legislative requirement for

Non-Financial Reporting, incorporating relevant Sustainable Development Goals

Support the wider Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability agenda, including wellbeing, fairness, inclusion and respect, this may include contributing to wellbeing programmes

Assisting in identifying further sustainability opportunities and projects, such as waste and water reduction and sustainable procurement

Energy management contributing to and maintaining ISO 50001 and ESOS compliance

Support the AD for Sustainability in maintaining ISO 500001 and developing best practice in energy management

Support annual carbon reporting through robust data collection and analysis

Provide support to maintain carbon neutrality and best practice, aligned to delivering to chosen Sustainable Development Goals

Support further identification and implementation of energy saving opportunities

Review energy procurement contracts to identify cost savings and carbon reduction through implementation of renewable energy contracts

Research and development of a robust company wide, science based target for energy reduction

Transport and road safety

Develop a sustainable transport policy to reduce the carbon footprint and emissions of company vehicles, including procurement of more efficient vehicles.

Provide support on the continued implementation of Construction Logistics and Community Safety (CLOCS) processes and procedures to improve road safety, whilst representing the company at the CLOCS working group to help identify any necessary changes to ensure CLOCS compliance

Communications and campaigns

Support the AD of Sustainability with preparing reports for the Board

Work with pre-construction on bid writing and preparing submissions for new projects and awards

Ongoing delivery and development of communications and marketing plans for carbon management and sustainability, to engage internal staff and external stakeholders

Develop case studies and press releases where applicable and represent the company at meetings and events
