Key Responsibilities include.
Bid Leadership and Risk Management:
- Identify and pursue business ventures across various sectors.
- Develop innovative, value-driven solutions for clients.
- Lead accurate pricing and tender responses.
- Understand and deliver on contract obligations.
- Report accurately on financials, H&S, environmental performance, and forecasts.
- Proactively manage project risks and ensure quality assurance traceability.
Project Delivery:
- Meet all contract specifications and ensure resource efficiency.
- Lead relationships with clients, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Drive timely completion, cost control, and compliance with safety/technical standards.
- Complete all administration, invoicing, and variation claims.
- Manage profit targets and seek commercial guidance as needed.
Leadership and People Management:
- Inspire, communicate, and support the team effectively.
- Balance and allocate resources within and across branches.
- Develop talent through coaching, delegation, and mentoring.
- Model integrity and manage employment matters appropriately.
Health & Safety:
- Perform tasks only if trained or under supervision.
- Report or rectify hazards and incidents immediately.
- Handle chemicals only with proper training and PPE.
- Follow all safety protocols and stop unsafe work.
Qualifications:
- Essential: Engineering Diploma or Degree, First Aid Qualification.
- Desirable: Project Management Qualifications or Certification.
Skills / Knowledge / Experience:
- Strong Civil Engineering background with significant PM experience.
- Knowledge of aggregates, asphalt, and materials.
- MS Project experience.
- Strong leadership and understanding of industry H&S requirements.
- Familiar with Construction Contracts Act and NZS 3910.
Attractive Experience:
- Roading construction, pavement design, and surfacing (asphalt, chipseal, bitumen).
- Delivery of Council-funded works and local authority contracts.
- Managing subcontractors, site programming, and QA systems.
- Familiarity with MSQA (Maintenance & Service Quality Assurance) requirements.
- Strong commercial and contractual understanding of contracts (NOC – Network Outcome Contracts, PPP – Public, Private Partnership).
- Strong safety record and commitment to zero-harm environments.
- Tendering and pricing for local government contracts.
- Familiarity with RAMM (Road Asset Maintenance Management).
- Data analysis and reporting on road maintenance KPIs.
- Experience working in alliance or Joint Venture models (e.g. NOC contracts).
- Implementation of ISO systems or safety-first initiatives on large civil sites.
- Residential subdivisions: earthworks, stormwater, wastewater, water reticulation, roading.
- Working alongside developers and councils.
- Knowledge of 3-waters infrastructure and Council Code of Compliance processes an added bonus.
